Imagine that you have a spot in your home where there is water damage. How are you going to find out where the water originates? Water has an amazing ability to travel along surfaces, only to show up in a place that is far away from where the problem really lies. Of course you could start cutting up the walls to find the origin of the water, but there is a much less intrusive method to deal with this. What is that?
You guessed it – Thermal Imaging. Using a thermal imaging camera it is possible to detect temperature differences inside the wall cavity that are due to a leak.
For the best chance of detecting the leak, the water should be running, since it is going to give you a more pronounced difference in temperature.
After finding the suspected problem area, a moisture meter can be used to verify the findings.
Water damage can cause mold or rot, so the sooner you can stop it, the better!
