Right now, with the ongoing crisis with COVID-19, thermal imaging has seen a use worldwide that can help in the fight against the virus. Since thermal imaging cameras notice temperature differences, they can be used to detect even a low-grade fever in people. While this is not new, it has been implemented to a much larger extent than ever before. For example, some airports have started using this tool to spot travelers that should be screened for infection. Police in China have started using helmet-mounted cameras that allow them to spot people that might have a fever, and hospitals use thermal imaging to be able to find those that are entering the hospital with a fever.
Thermal imaging is a great alternative for singling people out without the need to interact with them and can prove to be an excellent tool in society to curb the spread of the virus.
