If you watch old-school cartoons, you might get the impression that termites will eat through the wood of a chair quicker than a person could sit down on it, but this is definitely not the case. However, a termite infestation is a very serious problem, and it could lead to major damage to your home, even to the point where you will need to tear down sections of the structure to rebuild it.
Termites don’t distinguish between a residential and a commercial building, so it is important to keep an eye out for them around your business.
In the spring, signs of a nearby termite colony are the swarming, winged termites. If you see a lot of those around light fixtures, or if you see their wings left behind, you might have a mature colony inside your walls already.
It is important to avoid storing old wood near the building since termites might use this as a first foothold when going for your home. You should also make sure that there isn’t easy access to any wooden features of the building. For example, wood siding should never go all the way down to the ground.
