As a business owner, you have a responsibility for the safety of your customers, clients, and employees. Of course, you will do what you can to make sure that your place of business is a safe place to be, but there are times when extreme weather conditions can make this a difficult thing. For example, tornadoes can rip a building to shreds with little warning. Do you have a designated area that will function as a shelter in case of a tornado?
The main thing to consider in a tornado is stability. Naturally, the interior of any building will be better protected against the elements than the outskirts. Your best option would be a basement, but not all buildings will have this available to them. If there are stairs, the area underneath these will usually be a stable spot to find shelter, but if all else fails, the bathrooms might be the safest place you could find.
Sadly, many places of business aren’t built to stand up against a storm, but you should do what you can to offer shelter if it is needed.
