Having a store also means having a lot of shelving units. While some modern stores are trying to do things differently, there are really no good alternatives to this tried and true method for presenting merchandise. This doesn’t mean that you are tied up to a certain type of layout, however. While having parallel aisles is the most space-efficient way to install your shelving, it is not going to create a pleasant shopping experience in every scenario. Before you plan out your store, you should take some time considering the people that you cater to.
Many store owners try to plan out a way to guide their customers through the store to give them a more streamlined shopping experience. What items go together and in what order might someone want to find them. If there are stores that have a similar purpose as your store, you might be able to discreetly watch how customers travel through the store and what might work in your case.
No matter what type of layout you choose, it is important to leave plenty of space for customers to move around. A cramped store is a lot less likely to have good business. Bumping into other customers while shopping is not a pleasant experience.
